One of the world’s biggest charity fundraisers of today, the Monte-Carlo Gala is an annual charity gala organized by the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and Mr. Milutin Gatsby, the Global Fundraising Chairman. All proceeds will support the Foundation’s Global Ocean initiatives, including the development of marine protected areas, the protection of threatened marine species, the mitigation of the impact of climate change and of the acidification on the Ocean as well as the fight against plastic pollution.
Since its inception in 2017, it has gathered global philanthropists, policy makers, business leaders, scientists and an impressive list of internationally famous artists who join to support the causes of the Foundation, to bring solutions to scale and to address the existential crisis in our current global climate.
On the occasion of the 2017 and 2018 editions of the Monte-Carlo Gala, the ‘Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation Special Award’ went to Leonardo DiCaprio and Orlando Bloom, in recognition of their outstanding work and commitment for environmental preservation. In 2019 it was world-renowned actor and activist Robert Redford who was honored.
The 2019 edition also saw two of the biggest stars from China – Li Chen and G.E.M. Tang – attending the prestigious evening and sharing a piece of Monaco and its recognized efforts for ocean protection with their huge fan base and the media outlets throughout Asia.
The 2020 gala, now called “Monte-Carlo Gala for Planetary Health”, is dedicated to the Ocean, the Earth and Humanity. Held on Thursday 24 September, on the terraces of the Monte-Carlo Opera, with all the Monaco Safe stringent procedures in full force, it will welcome the international music icon, Sting, as the guest-of-honor. After Leonardo Di Caprio, Orlando Bloom and Robert Redford, the artist with 17 GRAMMY Awards was rewarded this year for his deep commitment to the preservation of the Planet and indigenous communities. At this time of global health crisis, the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation welcomes the partnership established this year with the Monaco and International Red Cross, within the framework of the Gala, which will enable the Foundation to support some of their field projects.
